If Leo Theremin was the grandfather of Musical Synthesizers than Bob Moog (1934-2005) was certainly the father of them. Rock, pop, and modern dance music would never be the same. An interview and audio samples of the current Moog synths are here.

Russian Professor Leon Theremin created the first playable musical synthesizer in 1938. Theremin was kidnapped from his New York studio by the KGB and was interred in a Soviet work camp for the next 25 years to build wiretap devices for the Soviets.
